digitabulum is the latin word for glove. A (white) glove is something you may never be lacking of in an archive. It has not only to protect the archival collections but also the fingers. The latin word for finger is digitus. It is our aim to protect digitaly stored Information in an archive, using a special tailored glove to make digital data visible. This kind of glove is needed to make virtuality touchable!

It's the purpose of this wiki to collect any information about technical and theoretical approaches for an optimized longtime preservation of digital data.

digitabulum ist der Lateinische Ausdruck für Handschuh. Der (weiße) Handschuh fehlt in keinem Archiv. Er schützt wertvolles Archivgut -- und er schützt die Finger. Das Lateinische Wort für für Finger ist digitus. digital gespeicherte Information wirklich dauerhaft zu sichern, ist unsere Aufgabe. Mit dem sehr speziellen "Handschuh", den wir für diesen Zweck verwenden, können digitale Daten im wahrsten Sinne des Worte begreifbar und sichtbar gemacht werden.
